1️⃣ Start with your occasion and budget
Before looking at photos, answer a few quick questions:
- What is the occasion – birthday, proposal, BBQ, team building, after‑work drinks?
- Rough headcount – small group of 8, mid‑size 15–20, or 30+ guests?
- What do you mainly want to do – karaoke, gaming, BBQ, Mahjong, photos, or business chat?
- Target budget per person – under HK$150, HK$200–300, or above?
Once you know this, you can quickly filter out unsuitable rooms. For example, family + BBQ often points to larger venues in Lai Chi Kok; business drinks and low‑key gatherings are better in Chill‑club or business‑style rooms.
2️⃣ Location & access – how far is “convenient”?
In general, being within 5–10 minutes’ walk from the MTR makes a huge difference, especially in bad weather or when people are carrying cakes and food. Popular areas for party rooms include:
- Lai Chi Kok – BBQ venues, chill after‑work rooms and business / drinks‑focused spaces.
- Mong Kok – ideal for students and central birthday gatherings.
- Kwun Tong / Kowloon Bay – many industrial buildings and large‑size units.
- Kwai Hing – bigger spaces, more budget‑friendly, with pet‑friendly options.
Use Google Maps to check walking time from the MTR exit and whether the building has a clear entrance, lift and any security procedures. Some venues require guests to be escorted downstairs.
3️⃣ Understand pricing: time slots, minimum charge, cleaning & overtime
Different venues use different pricing models, but they usually involve:
- Time slot pricing – 4‑hour blocks with different rates for afternoon, evening and overnight.
- Minimum charge / per‑head – some require a minimum of 8–10 guests, others charge per person.
- Cleaning fee – sometimes waived if you clean up yourself, otherwise HK$300–600 extra.
- Overtime rules – how much per hour if you extend, and when you must confirm the extension.
Always ask clearly via WhatsApp: “What exactly is included in the price? Are there any extra charges I should know about?” and request a photo or PDF of the full price list (time slots + fees) for your records.
4️⃣ Facilities checklist: essentials vs nice‑to‑haves
When comparing rooms, group facilities into a few categories:
- Entertainment: karaoke, consoles, board games, Poker table, BBQ set.
- Food & drinks: fridge, oven, induction cooker, cooking tools, corkage rules.
- Comfort: air‑conditioning, number of washrooms, enough sofa and table seating.
- Photo spots: themed decor, lighting, whether external decor is allowed.
If you plan to do hotpot or BBQ, confirm details such as: “Do you provide pots / stoves / oil / seasonings? Do we need to wash everything ourselves?”
5️⃣ Pre‑booking checklist
Before you pay a deposit, run through this quick checklist:
- ✅ Date, time slot and headcount range confirmed (e.g. 12–16 guests).
- ✅ Venue address, Google Maps link and entrance instructions saved in the group chat.
- ✅ Clear price table screenshot received, including overtime and cleaning fees.
- ✅ Everyone knows what time you can enter and the latest checkout time.
- ✅ If kids or pets are joining, the venue has confirmed it’s allowed and any rules.
- ✅ Someone is in charge of food / drinks and knows what kitchen facilities are available.
